Chapter-18, Verse 6

Ashtavakra Gita Verse 18.6:

व्यामोहमात्रविरतौ स्वरूपादानमात्रतः ।

वीतशोका विराजन्ते निरावरणदृष्टयः ॥ ६ ॥

By the simple elimination of delusion and the recognition of one's True Nature, those whose vision is unclouded, live free from sorrow.

The verse describes the state of liberation or enlightenment, which is attained by the removal of ignorance and the realization of one's true Self.

The true Self is the Pure Awareness, the Witness of everything, the Absolute Reality, which is beyond the body, mind, senses, and ego.

The ignorance or delusion is the false identification of oneself with the body, mind, senses, and ego, which leads to attachment, desire, fear, and suffering.

The recognition of one's True Nature is the direct and intuitive Knowledge of one's identity with the Absolute Reality, which is not dependent on any external authority, scripture, or logic.

Those who have eliminated their ignorance and recognized their True Nature have an unclouded vision, which means they see things as they are, without any distortion, projection, or illusion.

They live free from sorrow, which means they are not affected by the dualities of pleasure and pain, gain and loss, praise and blame, etc. They are serene, content, and blissful.

- From the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad Verse 4.4.5:

यत्र नान्यत्पश्यति नान्यच्छृणोति नान्यद्विजानाति स भूमा । 

अथ यत्रान्यत्पश्यत्यन्यच्छृणोत्यन्यद्विजानाति तदल्पम् ॥

Where one sees nothing else, hears nothing else, knows nothing else, that is the Infinite. Where one sees something else, hears something else, knows something else, that is the finite.

अहं ब्रह्मास्मि इति ज्ञात्वा देहं त्यक्त्वा विमुच्यते । अहं देहोऽस्मि इति ज्ञात्वा देहं गृह्णाति बन्धनात् ॥

Knowing 'I am Brahman', one renounces the body and is liberated. Knowing 'I am the body', one grasps the body and is bound.

नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सतः ।

उभयोरपि दृष्टोऽन्तस्त्वनयोस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः ॥

The unreal has no existence, the Real never ceases to be. The truth of both is seen by the seers of the essence of Reality.
