Chapter-15, Verse 19

Ashtavakra Gita Verse 15.19

मा संकल्पविकल्पाभ्यां चित्तं क्षोभय चिन्मय ।
उपशाम्य सुखं तिष्ठ स्वात्मन्यानन्दविग्रहे ॥ १९ ॥

Being Pure Consciousness, do not disturb your mind with thoughts of for and against. Be at peace and remain happily in yourself, the essence of joy.

- The first line of the verse advises the seeker to avoid the mental agitation caused by saṃkalpa and vikalpa, which are the projections and negations of the mind respectively. These are the sources of duality and bondage, which obscure the true nature of the self as Pure Consciousness.

- The second line of the verse instructs the seeker to calm down the mind and abide in the Self, which is the embodiment of Bliss
(ānandavigraha). The Self is not affected by any external circumstances or conditions, and is always full of happiness and peace. The seeker should Realize this and rest in his own being.

The verse implies that the Self is not an object of perception or conception, but the very subject that illumines everything. The Self is not a part of the world, but the world is a manifestation of the Self. The Self is not limited by time, space or causation, but transcends them all. The Self is not different from Brahman, the Supreme Reality, which is one without a second (advaita).

Chandyoga Upanishad 3.14.1:

एकमेवाद्वितीयं ब्रह्म नेह नानास्ति किञ्चन । सर्वं खल्विदं ब्रह्म तज्जलानिति शान्त उपासीत ॥

Brahman is one without a second; there is no diversity here whatsoever. All this is verily Brahman; one should meditate on that in a calm manner.

Aitrey Upanishad:
प्रज्ञानं ब्रह्म ।
Consciousness is Brahman.
