Chapter-18, Verse 72

Ashtavakra Gita Verse 18.72

स्फुरतोऽनन्तरूपेण प्रकृतिं च न पश्यतः ।
क्व बन्धः क्व च वा मोक्षः क्व हर्षः क्व विषादता ॥ ७२ ॥

Where is bondage, liberation, joy, or sorrow for one who does not perceive nature – the relative existence – but sees only the Self shining in endless forms?

The first line describes the state of a person who has Realized his True Nature as the Supreme Self, beyond all names and forms, qualities and attributes. Such a person is free from all limitations and attachments, and transcends the cycle of birth and death.

The second line states that such a person does not experience any bondage or liberation, because he has no desires or expectations. He does not seek anything from the world or from God, nor does he fear anything from them. He is content with his own Self, which is Pure Consciousness.

The third line also implies that such a person does not experience any pleasure or pain, because he has no sense of enjoyment or suffering. He does not get attached to the results of his actions, nor does he get disturbed by their consequences. He acts only out of duty and compassion, without any egoism or selfishness.

The Verse finally concludes that such a person has attained the highest state of Bliss and Peace, which is beyond all dualities and contradictions. He has realized his identity with God, who is the Source of all existence.
