Chapter-20, Verse 02

Ashtavakra Gita Verse 20.2

For me, there is no scripture, no knowledge, no mind free from objects, no satisfaction, no liberation, and no removal of duality.

This verse emphasizes the state of Self-Realization, where the seeker transcends all concepts and experiences the Absolute Reality. The verse negates the need for scriptures, self-knowledge, and even a mind free from objects, as these are all tools on the path to Realization. In the state of oneness, there is no duality of subject and object, no desire for satisfaction or liberation, as these concepts dissolve in the experience of the eternal Self.

Here are three similar verses from Vedic texts for context:

  • Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.3.6:

Here there is no duality whatsoever.

  • Yoga Vashishtha, Vairagya Viveka 6:

Therefore, when all is abandoned, in the Realization of "I am That," there is no doer, no action, no fruit, and no thought.

  • Bhagavad Gita

The wise one who is the same in happiness and sorrow, who is the same to all beings, is ever serene and balanced in mind.
