Chapter-20, Verse 07

 Ashtavakra Gita Verse 20.7

क्व सृष्टिः क्व च संहारः क्व साध्यं क्व च साधनम्।
क्व साधकः क्व सिद्धिर्वा स्वस्वरुपेऽहमद्वये॥७॥

Where is creation? Where is destruction? Where is the Goal? Where is the means? Where is the seeker? Where is the attainment? I am the non-dual Self in my own form.

In this verse, the sage Ashtavakra poses a series of rhetorical questions that point to the fundamental nature of Reality and the True Nature of the Self. He questions the notions of creation and destruction, seeking and attaining, and ultimately reveals that the seeker and the sought are one and the same. It emphasizes the non-dual nature of the Self, highlighting that there is no separation between the seeker and the Goal, the means and the end. The verse invites the seeker to recognize their own inherent Divinity and Realize that the Ultimate Truth lies within themselves.

For context, let's compare this verse with three similar verses from various Vedic texts:

1. Verse from the Upanishads:

तत्त्वमसि श्वेतकेतो

"That thou art, O Shvetaketu."

2. Verse from the Bhagavad Gita:

अहमात्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः।
अहमादिश्च मध्यं च भूतानामन्त एव च॥१०.२०॥

"I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings."

3. Verse from the Yoga Vasistha:

जगदाधारो जगद्वृत्तिर्जीवो जीवनमुच्यते।
स्वरूपं तद्विदां सर्वं शान्तं विराजते तव॥१.४२॥

"You are the support of the world, the movement of the world, the individual, the life of life. The whole universe is your own form, which shines in peace."

These verses from different Vedic texts reinforce the idea of the non-dual Self and the inherent divinity of all beings. They emphasize the unity between the seeker and the sought, highlighting the need to recognize the True Nature of the Self and realize that the Ultimate Truth lies within oneself. The seeker is encouraged to go beyond the external world and turn inward to discover their own Divine essence.
